Logan’s Bio

ong prey drive, Logan is a powerful runner. However, Logan loathes being confined to small spaces, which is a big part of being a racing dog. A fierce fighter for his freedom, he left what could have been a successful racing career for a much more fulfilling life.

By the time he was 18 months old he had travelled from West Virginia to Florida and then ended up at Fast Friends Greyhound Rescue in New Hampshire before being adopted in 2011.

Logan’s transition from racing dog to companion dog had some rough spots. Separation anxiety and being noise sensitive resulted in a few dog beds being shredded. With some consistent training, over time, Logan has become more trusting and patient at home. Exposure to more places and experiences has also boosted his confidence and helped mitigate his anxiety.

IMG_1911A big contributing factor to his transition has been the presence of big brother BoomBoom, and K9 Nose Work. The sport has given Logan what all dog’s seek, a structured outlet for mental and physical energy. Within 10 months of his first nose work class, Logan earned a Nose Work Level 1 title at a National Association of Canine Scent Work trial. A year later he achieved the advanced NW2 title. And in 2015 he became the first Greyhound to earn an NW3 title, and has the first two-legs toward his NW3 Elite title.

When not doing scent work games, Logan is eager to learn more obedience training, loves running around with BoomBoom in the backyard, and seems to be on a quest to collect as many soft-side squeaker toys as he can. Logan has learned the comfort of a good cozy with his friendbeasts, and now realizes he can trust people.
